Get critical alerts for failed Stripe payments on your phone

Failed payments are the invisible leak in your ARR bucket. Churn due to failed cards (dunning) can handle some of it, but high-value transaction failures often require manual intervention.

Here is how to set up a Critical Alert system for failed payments using AlertHub + Stripe.

Why use Webhooks?

Emails from Stripe can get lost in your spam folder or ignored. An AlertHub notification can be routed to your email or any other destination you configure.

Configuration

1. Events to Monitor

We recommend listening to these two events:

  • invoice.payment_failed: Logic for recurring billing failures.
  • payment_intent.payment_failed: Logic for one-time payment failures.

2. The URL Strategy

We will set the ah_level to critical. This ensures the alert stands out in your dashboard and can trigger specific notification rules (like bypassing “Do Not Disturb” if you set that up in the future).

Endpoint URL:

Generate Webhook URL
GET POST
https://api.thealerthub.com/sendAlert?ah_key=YOUR_KEY&ah_source=Stripe+Billing&ah_title=Payment+Failed%3A+%7B%7Bdata.object.amount_due%7D%7D+%7B%7Bdata.object.currency%7D%7D&ah_level=critical&ah_description=Invoice+%7B%7Bdata.object.id%7D%7D+failed.+Email%3A+%7B%7Bdata.object.customer_email%7D%7D.+Next+attempt%3A+%7B%7Bdata.object.next_payment_attempt%7D%7D

(Note: Parameters may vary slightly between invoice and payment_intent objects. Check Stripe docs for exact field names).

3. Route to Destinations

Configure your destinations in AlertHub. Check Destinations for more information.

Conclusion

By setting this up, your support team can reach out to the customer immediately when a payment fails, potentially saving the sale and improving customer trust.
